Located to the southeast of Reno, around 4 miles / 6.5 km from the city proper, Reno Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is Nevada's second busiest airport, handling in excess of five million passengers annually. Reno Tahoe is the gateway into the Tahoe ski region and serves some 20 destinations around the USA, including western Nevada and parts of eastern California.

Ten major airlines currently operate at Reno Tahoe Airport and each year see over five million passengers, which every day equates to more than 150 flights and 14,000 passengers. Southwest Airlines currently connects the largest number of cities, which include Chicago, Las Vegas, LA, San Diego and also Seattle. Reno Tahoe Airport is also a significant cargo facility and annually shifts some 60,000 tons of cargo.


A public bus runs to Reno's downtown district, from Reno Tahoe Airport, using the US-395 and South Virginia Street, and there are also several scheduled shuttle bus services to boot. Many of the city's hotels provide courtesy shuttle buses to those with reservations, and taxis are also in good supply, being operated by Reno Sparks Cabs and Whittlesea. Also close to Reno Airport are various popular tourist destinations, such as Sparks, Sun Valley and Verdi. Further afield and to the southwest you will find Lake Tahoe, King's Beach and Carson City.

Reno has an outstanding setting amid the foothills of the imposing Sierra Nevada Mountains and is Nevada's second gambling den, with Las Vegas being the premier one. Downtown Reno is loaded with flashy 24-hour casinos and neon lights, and it also boasts cabaret and fine dining.

People also fly to Reno Tahoe Airport (RNO) for the stunning ski region to the southwest of the city itself, where Lake Tahoe vacation rentals have become extremely popular. Carson City is also a notable destination in this region and is actually the capital of Nevada, being home to attractions such as the Nevada State Capitol Complex and the State Museum. Reno Airport is close to Sparks, a city sited in Washoe County and within the Truckee Meadows. Sparks is known for its many seasonal festivities, such as the annual Rib Cook-off during Labor Day Weekend, a major local event attended by almost 500,000 people each year.
